The Jays vs EarBiters 12-30

The EarBiters got off to a hot start in this one trying to bounce back from a bad outing last week. They went up 24-0 early in the second half on a quick 4 play drive after forcing a three and out on the opening drive of the second half. Their first play from scrimmage in the second half was a 43 yard pitch and catch from Yitzy Tannenbaum to Jason Bick setting them up in great field position in the red zone. Two plays later they found the end zone on a play in which Yosef Shmuel, their Tight End, released and Yitzy flipped it to him for the 3 yard score. The first half can be summed up with this: Jason Bick returned the opening kick all the way for a 58 yard touchdown as he made multiple people miss initially and then out ran the rest of them down the sideline to get the EarBiters off on the right foot. The rest of the half saw their defense continuously give The Jays offense fits and their other two scores came from the Wide Receiver 1 Noam Fried but they couldn’t manage to convert on any of their extra point attempts making the score 18-0 at half and 24-0 shortly after the start of the second half. The Jays began to mount a little comeback as on the next drive, while under pressure, David Benami tossed a ball in the direction of two receivers near the sideline. After it was bobbled by both of them Yehuda Roffman came down with it and took it 41 yards to the house after being sprung by a very nice block by the man he bobbled the ball with, Tight End Yaakov Lurie. After a nice defensive set in which they forced a turnover on downs they scored again with that great field position. They scored on a 19 yard play on fourth down in which Benami scrambled way back towards the other end zone and sprinted all the way back to the line of scrimmage and fired a dart to Yaakov Lurie for 6. The EarBiters did however pick up two sacks on that drive coming from Yosef Shmuel and Akiva Lader. With the score now 24-12 and time started to wind down The EarBiters looked to put the game away on this drive. They did just that on a 19 yard score on a bullet from the arm of Yitzy Tannenbaum finding a crossing Benjy Hild to close out the game 30-12. Yitzy finished the game with 4 passing TD’s and the EarBiters tacked on the Jason Bick return for touchdown for their 5 scores. Yaakov Lurie did amass 3 sacks in this for The Jays in the losing effort.

Mercenaries vs Ertz Bucks 13-6

This game started very slow with both teams not scoring for the first half. They were trading punts and turnover on downs all half as there was only one red zone appearance in the half that ended in a turnover on downs thanks to an Ezra Morris sack on fourth down. The Mercenaries opened the second half with the ball and finally put some points on the board going up 6-0 on a 6 yard pass to TE Akiva Babakhanov. They got the ball right back with the first big play of the game. On second and long Baruch “Benny” Garfunkel jumped the route and returned the INT all the way to the 2 as he could’ve potentially scored had he not stumbled at about the 10. Two plays later their big TE found the end zone again. This one was from 5 yards out for Akiva’s second TD of this game. A few drives later as the game was closing out the Ertz Bucks were running out of time to make it  a game. They hit their first big play of the game to keep this game alive. They completed a 40 yard touchdown pass from Alan Shamah to their big receiver Caleb Rosenfeld making it 13-6. However unfortunately for them the Mercenaries closed them out as they had one more drive but it didn’t amount to anything and the game was over after they failed on fourth and long.

Flush the Lush vs The Baboons 26-12

This one was close for most of the game but became uncompetitive late. The game was dominated by a couple people namely Joey Zelig and Sol Feder of Flush the Lush while The Baboons were paced by a few huge plays and a balanced attack. Flush the Lush opened the game with the ball and after a few plays their first deep shot came. It was on second and long when Zach Levy loaded up and launched a ball high in the air into 1 on 1 coverage intended for Joey Zelig. The defender had position but at the last second Joey leapt in front of him at the goal line and walked into the end zone. The Baboons came right back with a quick strike of their own as on the second play from scrimmage for them Jacob Winters found space behind the defense and they hit the 50 yarder to pull within one at 7-6 just like that. The Baboons then forced a three and out however they themselves went three and out as well due to a third down Sol Feder sack, his first of the game. On the next Flush drive they took their second deep shot of the game. Levy dialed it up to Joey Zelig in 1 on 1 coverage again and again the defender had position and this time, instead of leaping in front of him, Zelig just jumped from behind him and absolutely mossed him taking the ball right out of his hands and walking in for his second score of the game. The next Baboons drive was a 12 play drive that took the game all the way to the half. The drive started out with Sol Feder notching his second sack of the game and few plays later, after a few penalties, it was fourth and long with about a minute left. The Baboons set up to punt and after they got the punt off despite the blitz from Flush, the defense committed a costly penalty. While going all out for the punt block they got called for roughing the punter, giving The Baboons 10 yards and a first down. With that fresh set of downs The Baboons Capitalized. After a few chunk plays with seconds left at the 17 yard line, The Baboons had to go for the endzone and that is exactly what they did. They threw it up to Jake Goldberg in double coverage and he raised up above everyone and tipped it up in the air, he then caught the falling ball for The Baboons second touchdown as time expired making it 13-12 Flush the Lush at half. The Baboons opened the second half with the ball but punted it away after Sol Feder’s third sack of the game on third down. Then Sol Feder continued his excellent game on the second play of their offensive drive he released as the tight end and out ran everyone down the sideline for a 35 yard touchdown thanks to a couple of nice blocks as well. The two teams traded punts as The Baboons defense showed up with two sacks, the second coming from Jake Goldberg on second and long making it a very difficult third and long. The Baboons then punted it back, thanks to another Sol Feder sack (his fourth of the game), as the war of field position continued. Flush the Lush finally punched it in after starting the drive at the 20. They scored on a nice out route to, you guessed it, Joey Zelig in the front corner of the end zone for his third TD of the game. With the score now 26-12 and time running out The Baboons had one more chance. Their drive got off to a bad start as Sol Feder notched his fifth and final sack of this outstanding game for him and it never materialized to anything and the game ended with Flush the Lush taking this as they turned it on in the second half and ran away with this one.

Ayala Tours vs imRAY’s 0-7

This one was a really good defensive game all throughout as both teams have very good fundamental teams and the imRAY’s were starting a new QB for the first time in this one. After the first two drives ended in punts, Ayala Tours got down to the red zone but then on third and goal on a pass to the back of the end zone, Meir Cavalier intercepted the ball on a nice toe tap catch in the back of the end zone to keep Ayala off the board and give the ball back to their young new QB. The next drive was a good one for The imRAY’s as Meir Cavalier made another highlight play. On a deep attempt down the sideline the defender played it well as he was in front of Cavalier but Meir jumped in front of him and snatched the ball away. He then walked into the end zone for the 37 yard score to open the scoring making it 7-0. Ayala had another nice drive going but thanks to an Eli Dachs five yard sack they had to punt again. Three plays later though, they got the ball back as Ori Wachspress made an incredible play on a pass intended for the flat. He jumped up on the defensive line and caught it right out of the air but unfortunately for them they only had one shot play before the half and it fell incomplete for 17 yards out. imRAY’s opened the second half with the ball but punted it away after a big second down sack from Ori Wachspress. After a turnover on downs for each team imRAY’s got another turnover as Zevy Green got their second INT of the game however imRAY’s offense stalled out in the red zone as Ori Wachspress got another sack and on fourth and goal Noam Susman intercepted the pass in the endzone. On Ayala’s first play of the next drive Meir Cavalier made his third big play of the game. He jumped an out route and made an incredible toe tap interception for his second INT of the game. They then went three and out giving Ayala one last chance as the end of the game was nearing. On third and long as the game seemed to be over Ayala hit a 40 yard reception to put them right on the doorstep only 9 yards out. They however couldn’t complete the next four passes and The imRAY’s took this defense battle 7-0 after the last goal line stand.

Little Giants vs Converse Dating 14-35

The Little Giants kept this one close throughout the beginning portion of this game but Converse Dating ultimately took this one deciding fashion. Despite being without their starting QB Converse still managed to put up points and they did so with the usual suspects. A few big plays from Converse’s offense sprinkled in with some key defensive stops helped them run away with this one late as the Little Giants just couldn’t keep up with them.

Pizzeria Efrat vs Sound of Silence 30-0

Pizzeria seemingly had this one in the bag before the game even started. They opened up with the ball and on the second play from scrimmage Moshe Shear connected with Elisha Rudman on a 35 yard touchdown for the first big play of the game. They immediately got the ball back as Rudman picked off the pass on the second play from scrimmage for Sound of Silence on a nice toe tap sideline grab. After a few plays they found themselves in the red zone and after a catch and a penalty Moshe Shear found Mayer Kiffel wide open in the back of the end zone on a nice route concept. The SoS then made a couple nice catches including a 25 yard grab on first down. Unfortunately for them Rudman made another nice play as he got his second interception of the game. Two plays later Rudman scores his second touchdown of the game on a 43 yarder in which he found open space streaking across the middle of the field making it 18-0. Pizzeria then forced a punt thanks in part to Yechiel Sklar getting a first down sack. On Pizzeria’s first play of their next drive Shear hit Effi Mishaan on a 23 yard touchdown in which he spun and backed his way into the end zone. After another good defensive set for Pizzeria’s defense ending in a failed fake punt Kiffel found the end zone for the second time this game on a toe tap catch in the back corner of the end zone that was perfectly placed by Moshe Shear. That brought the game to halftime with Pizzeria up 30-0. SoS opened up the second half with the ball but went four and out and Pizzeria’s next drive pretty much ended the game as they went on a 18 play drive with multiple pattened Moshe Shear runs including a big fourth down 27 yard scramble keeping the drive alive and putting them in the red zone. However they stalled out as 7 plays, a couple of penalties and dropped INTs from SoS later Pizzeria Efrat turned the ball over on a fourth and goal from the 1. SoS had one last drive and turned it over on four downs after gaining one first down on a nice one handed grab from Dovie Geizhals. He also added a sack as he was one of their top performers in this 30-0 blowout loss.

 Omni vs All American 20-0

This game was pinned as being another one of those very competitive games and hopefully exciting, maybe even coming down to the wire as it featured two teams with very good rosters and championship aspirations. That was not the case as Omni, the much more veteran team in this league, took this one quite easily. They were in control of this one from start to finish as they had a very good all around game. Omni started with the ball and quickly scored on a nice route from Ezra Shulman in which he was wide open cutting across the field and walked in on a 25 yard score. Omni then got the ball back after All American started driving a little bit thanks in large part to a big third down sack from Moshe Lieberman. Omni got into the end zone again this drive. After a few runs from QB Avi Zern got them right into striking distance he hit Chaim Harris for a nice 10 yard touchdown in which he juked and ducked his way into the end zone. Omni’s defense came up big again on the next drive, this time Yosef Malka came up with a 5 yard safety making it 14-0. With the ball after the safety Omni drove right down the field and made it 20-0. After a sack from Zechariah Abramowitz, on fourth and short, Avi Zern hit a wide open Sammy Sonnenberg down the middle of the field after a slick pump and go that gave him the space and Avi hit him with ease putting this game almost out of reach already before the half. With time running out in the half All American really needed to do something quick. On first down Yakov Rosenblum hit Akiva Stutman on a massive play. He hit for a 44 yard pass and catch in which he cut across the field and sprinted down the sideline setting them up nicely in the red zone. Omni then came up huge on defense. Yosef Malka got a nice 6 yard sack and two plays later Chaim “Chatz” Katz came up with a huge INT at the one yard line taking the game to halftime with Omni up 20-0. Sammy and Moshe Lieberman came with a shared sack helping force a three and out on the first drive of the half. They then punted it back to the All Americans but just two plays later got the ball right back on an Ezra Shulman INT on the sideline. All American got the ball back after another Abromvitz sack but there was just not enough time for them to do anything. They took a deep shot and converted it as Yitz Devor came down with a very impressive jump ball reception in which he simultaneously caught the ball with the defender and wrestled it away at the goal line. Unfortunately for them the next play Chaim Harris put the final nail in the coffin with a game ending INT in the end zone. Omni really showed up in this game and put the league on notice as they played a near perfect game and showed what they’re capable of when they are firing on all cylinders.

Umpa Lumpas vs TC 2-25

In the final game of the night TC kept to the theme of this week and ended the night with another blowout. This one came at the hands of the Umpa Lumpas and this game was never in question. TC opened the game on defense and gave the ball to the offense quickly as they forced a three and out thanks to Nechemia Gross’s first sack of the game which came on third and long. The punt didn’t either go so smoothly for the Umpa Lumpas as Elisha Yaniv tipped the punt and gave TC’s offense great starting field position as they started in the red zone, on the 17 yard line. Their offense didn’t waste much time getting the first score of the game as on the first play of the drive QB Dovi Mann found an open Gav Goldberg in the back corner of the end zone for 6. Umpas next drive lasted a bit longer but also ended in TC getting the ball back this time on a fourth down stop. Three plays later they were back on the board. This time Dovi hit Eli Friedman who blew past the defense and found space and once he got the ball they couldn’t catch him. The score went for 33 yards and Avi Roz added on the extra point to make it 13-0. TC had another good defensive set as Elisha Yaniv notched his first sack on second down then the next play Ahron Fox picked off the pass after it was tipped and somehow managed to keep his feet in bounds with control to deny the Umpa Lumpas their first red zone opportunity. After an incomplete pass on first down TC hit another big play to Eli Friedman again. This time wasn’t a touchdown but it did go for 40 yards putting them right on the doorstep as he got behind the defense again as he used his world class speed to get open again. Two plays later Dovi found Gav Goldberg once again in the end zone. This one was a contested catch that Gav came down with despite the DB fighting and struggling to knock it out of his hands. The 16 yard score made it 19-0 as the first half started to wind down. After another quick Umpa Lumpa drive TC had a chance to put up another score right before halftime. That is exactly what they did. It only took them a few plays to get into the red zone and then from 14 yards out Dovi took off and dipped his way into the end zone for their fourth first half score making it 25-0 at half. TC opened the half with the ball but Umpas defense forced a punt as Elchonon Feiner recorded their first sack of the game. The Umpa Lumpas then gave the ball back after coming up just short on a QB run on fourth and 28 after two Elisha Yaniv sacks; however they got it back the next play as their defense made a big play and turned TC over. Asher Ackerman tipped the ball and Shmuel Gelfan made a nice diving grab for the interception. After putting together a nice drive getting to the four yard line Nechemia Gross effectively ended the game as he picked off a pass at the goal line off another tip. Umpa Lumpas got on the board next drive on a safety coming from Naftali Oldak but it was way too little way too late as after they went four and out after the safety the game was over and TC’s dominate first half gave them an impressive 25-2 win as they continue their great season on their quest for a championship.
